Phishing Alert

Beware of Phishing Scam, Protect Yourself

What is phishing scam?

Phishing scam is a fraudulent act in which customers' passwords, PIN numbers, and personal information are obtained illegally by fake emails and websites disguised as real financial institutions, etc., and money is stolen. In most cases, fake emails and websites are cleverly created to look exactly like the real thing, with the email sender, URL, and design.

Examples of phishing fraud caused by fake emails

I received an email that appeared to be from XX Bank saying "Due to our strengthened security measures, we need you to log in again and reset your user information. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please click here to reset your information," so I clicked the link in the email without any suspicion and entered my user ID and password on the screen that appeared. Then, using that information, someone logged into my account without my permission and made a fraudulent transfer.

What can I do to protect myself?

1

Beware of suspicious email/SMS and website

Rakuten Securities HK will never ask you to enter your password, PIN or any sensitive or confidential personal information via email or SMS. Do not open suspicious email/SMS, follow links or download attachments, and delete the email/SMS completely. If you do access a fake site, do not enter your password or other information even if you are asked to do so.
2

Enable spam filtering

A spam filter is an effective measure against phishing emails. Most email services have a spam filter, so if you are receiving a large number of phishing emails, please check that your spam filter settings are enabled.
3

Check your browser's address bar

There are a few points to distinguish a phishing site from a real website. First, check that the address bar of your browser is displayed as shown below.

If you are using Microsoft Edge

If you are using Chrome

Rakuten Securities HK website is created with the URL "sec.rakuten.com.hk"
